It was a calm night. There was a cool breeze and the sun was setting. The bright stadium lights poured over the baseball diamond. It was the bottom of the 7th and tension was in the air. Prep was down 6-4.
On the Pillow side of the stands parents sat in expectation of victory. On the Prep side parents stood with a glazed over look, holding their breath in anticipation. Luke Maddox glides to the home plate and stares down a curve ball. The crack of the bat breaks the silence, the ball sails over the center field fence…two players cross home plate. Prep is back in the game.
Neal Pope knows his assignment and he completes it with confidence. Home run to win the game. Prep takes the first victory of MPSA 3A Division I State Championship series, 7-6
Today they traveled to Pillow and lost 6-4. Saturday they go at it again 6:00p.m. in Jackson.
